Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get my garbage scheduled for pickup?
Beginning January 1, 2008, garbage will be picked up by Northern Waste. The cost is paid out of the taxes collected on property. There is a 5 bag limit weekly. New recycle bins will be dropped off. You use your own garbage cans. If you need to start pickup or have any other issues, such as being missed, you may call Northern Waste directly at 362-4445.

When is garbage picked up?
The garbage is picked up each week on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, depending on where in the town you live. Recyclables are picked up weekly with co-mingles one week and paper/cardboard the opposite week. See Recyclables Calendar link.

What is recycled.?
There is a standard recycle bin to be used. Combine glass, aluminum, tin cans, plastic #1 and #2 in the bin. You do not have to remove labels or crush cans, but do rinse out. Remove the plastic caps and throw into regular trash. All paper (magazines, newspapers, etc.), can be combined and put into a grocery bag or clear plastic bag and set on top of the recycle bin. Cardboard should be in 2x2 squares and bound together. To get a recycle bin delivered call Northern Waste at 362-4445.

What do I do with my yard wastes (leaves, tree branches)?
The closed town dumps are opened twice a year for this purpose only. Two weekends about mid-spring and one weekend in late fall. These dates are published in both the Daily News and the North Star Journal. The hours are 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Can I burn brush and leaves in Pine Lake?
Yes, but it is recommended that you compost leaves and haul brush to the dump sites. If you want to burn and the ground is not 100% covered by snow, then a permit will be required. They are available at the DNR Station or the Fire Wardens in the Township. The rules of the burning permit must be followed and if a fire does get out of control you may be responsible for the costs to extinguish the fire.

What do I do if I’m building a home in Pine Lake?

You will need to get permits from Oneida County Planning and Zoning. You will also need a Uniform Dwelling Code Building permit and have your home inspected as it is being built. The Rhinelander Fire Department/Building Inspector has contracted with the Town of Pine Lake to do this service.
You will also need a driveway permit (see ordinances). Obtain an application from the clerk. After it is returned with the fee an inspection is scheduled and when approved the Land Information Office is notified. Then you may apply for an address from that office at the Oneida County Courthouse.

Can I subdivide my land?
The Town of Pine Lake has a Subdivision and Land Division ordinance (see ordinances). The Plan Commission must approve any land divisions as well as the Town Board. The Plan Commission meets the second Wednesday of the month and you must call the clerk to be included on the agenda. Preferably that should happen a week prior to the meeting so that maps can be sent to members of the Plan Commission with plenty of time to review.

When are the Town Board meetings held?
Town Board Meetings are scheduled for the third Wednesday evening of the month at 6:30 p.m., at the Community Building, Fire Department Meeting Room #1, 4197 River Road. From time to time a meeting may need to be changed, so watch for notice changes in the Daily News.
How do I find out what will be going on at a Town Board Meeting?
An agenda is prepared and is posted at the three sites in the township at least 24 hours prior to the meeting. It will also be posted at the website. The sites to check for notices of Board Meetings are at the Community Building on River Road, the second Fire Station on County Highway C and at the corner of Pine Lake Road and East View Road.

Are there committees in the town government?
Yes there are several committees. These meetings are held as needed, except for the Plan Commission, which meets the second Wednesday of the month. The agendas are posted at the three sites listed above, but not on the website.

How can I get an item on the Board Meeting Agenda?
The chairman is the one who sets the meeting agenda. You may contact the chairman to have an item put on the agenda. There is also a time at each Town Board meeting where citizens may bring up any issue that they wish, however, the board may not take any action at that time, but may put the item on another agenda to be acted upon.
